The time vacuums in my to-do list
Lots of things suck the life right out of my day. Some things you know are going to be bad like getting stuck in traffic, major appliances making ugly noises or your pet is stuck in labor.
But some things are helpful. The telephone, shopping, and the computer. They seem like such a good idea. 2 hours later - not so much!
Public Enemy #1 - The Telephone
It drives me crazy! I hate the phone. If I want to talk with someone, I want to see them. Conversation is so much easier in person. You get the whole body language and facial expression clues. Email and other written formats can be hard too because you don’t get to hear their tones and inflections. Without emoticons and lotsa’ punctuation, sarcasm is hard to “read” in print. Anyways… I like to see people. I like to talk. But I don’t really care for phones or email. My sister lives 12 hours away. I want to talk to her, but I don’t like the phone reminding me how far away she truly is. I would like to see her. Every day if I could!
Public Enemy #2 - The Shopping
It doesn’t seem inherently evil but oooh how I hate it! I can never just get the few items I need. Wait a minute, I have a husband, 3 kids and a gaggle of pets. I never just need a FEW items. Maybe that is the part I hate - the long list. Or maybe it is the fact that the list of wants and needs is always bigger than my checkbook balance. Or how long it actually takes to run errands. We consolidate our errands to save on gasoline so errand day can sometimes truly take up my day!
Public Enemy #3 - The Computer with its tangled World Wide Web
Computers are helpful - aren’t they? My computer’s job is to let me check on stuff. Just give me a minute before we do x, y, and z. I just need to check the weather forecast before we can plan our outing, check my email, check our bank balance, check on my blog to see if anything needs edited or approved, check my ebay listings and bids, and on and on and on… Lots of checking to do. Boy does it take a lot of time to check everything
.
So, where was I? Doesn’t matter now because I am out of time.
