Soccer Moms
Our soccer season is almost over. Not a minute too soon either. Sounded like a great idea. The kids will get some exercise, make friends and learn a new sport. Oh yeah - I almost forgot… three kids on three different teams with different practice nights and times. Plus games. On top of that, I don’t do hot, sunny weather very well at all.
The season started off with a bang. We got uniforms. We shopped for cleats and shin guards. I signed up to bring team snacks. I gave the kids money for the concession stand. The weather was great- lots of cloudy overcast days. Perfect. I figured how bad can it be.
I’m a terrible mom. I lost interest after one game day. It feels as if my brain is going to leak out of my ear if I sit through one more game. A few games into the season, it started raining, and raining, and raining. I would sit in my chair trying to concentrate on the game and not think about how cold I was. After that, the weather turned and now it was 90 degrees and no shade. I am a big wuss.
And then there was all the stuff we brought: rain coats, blankets, chairs, drinks, packed lunches. We felt like nomads every Sat morning.
I only made it to a couple of games. My husband on the other hand has toughed out the games and practices. So here’s a big thank you to the best Soccer Dad ever. Happy Father’s Day!
